(*All Programs are held at the Gyuto Center in San Jose unless otherwise indicated. Please check our website periodically for our most updated calendar.)
We have exciting news for 2012! Venerable Thupten Donyo, Director of Gyuto Vajrayana Center, is organizing a Buddhist pilgrimage to India and Nepal in November 2012. Ven. Thupten Donyo will be leading the pilgrimage and this will be his fourth trip with Gyuto Center members and friends. The duration of the pilgrimage will be 16 days: Friday, November 2nd, through Saturday, November 17, 2012. The group will be visiting all sacred sites of the Buddha known as The Eight Great Wonders as well as one of the 7 Wonders of the World - the Taj Mahal.
Registration:
A limited number of people will be accepted to join the pilgrimage. Interested members should contact Ven. Donyo for registration by email to donyo@gyuto.org or by phone at (408) 204-8724. Registration will be taken on a “first come, first serve” basis and is open to everyone until August 30, 2012. To register for the pilgrimage, please call Ven. Donyo at (408) 204-8724 or email donyo@gyuto.org to make sure there are still seats available. Once you register, you will need to send a photocopy of your passport and a $500.00 non-refundable deposit payable by check to Thupten Donyo (please write pilgrimage on the memo line) and mail it to 1439 Old Piedmont Road, San Jose, CA 95132 to ensure your place on the pilgrimage.
If you are very interested in joining this pilgrimage, we recommend you call Ven. Donyo as soon as you receive this announcement and send your deposit. Once we receive your deposit we will send you a confirmation of registration. Without the deposit, your registration will not be confirmed. Full payment must be received by September 30, 2012. If anyone wishes to join the pilgrimage from other states or other countries, they are welcome to do so. However, registration is required and all attendees must arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal no later than November 3, 2012. Registration will be closed August 30, 2012.
Important:
Ven. Thupten Donyo and the group will be flying to Kathmandu on Singapore Airlines from San Francisco on Friday, November 2nd, 2012 and will be returning from New Delhi (NOT from Kathmandu) to the U.S. on Saturday, November 17, 2012. We are not making a group reservation so you will need to book your airline ticket yourself based on this itinerary. We recommend booking your flight with Third Eye Travel in Fremont: www.thirdeyetravel.com. When you make your flight reservation, please mention that you are with Thupten Donyo’s group. You can contact Sonam at (510) 487-9010 or by email to sonam@thirdeyetravel.com to make your flight reservations. Third Eye Travel has always been very helpful to our members on previous trips and they have helped us with succesful pilgrimages in the past.
During the trip you will be sharing rooms that have twin beds. Most of the hotels in the remote areas are often booked earlier by other Buddhist groups so single rooms are not always available. Therefore, we advise you to encourage your family and/or friends to join the pilgrimage so you can share a room with your family or friends. We will make the greatest effort to make you as comfortable as possible.
A pilgrimage is a journey to a sacred place as an act of devotion and faith. Many enlightened beings have advised visiting the place where the Buddha was born, the place where the Buddha attained Enlightenment, and the place where he preached the first teaching and where he passed away into Maha Parinirvana.
For complete information about the pilgrimage please visit our website at www.gyutocenter.org and share this information with friends. You can also watch our previous pilgrimage video on YouTube.
If you have any questions, please contact Ven. Thupten Donyo directly at (408) 204-8724 or send him an email at donyo@gyuto.org.
Have a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!
