Latest Event at Gyuto Vajrayana Center - Updated 8 June 2011

Greetings and Tashi Delek!

We're very excited to announce the upcoming Gyuto Vajrayana Center event in June 2011.

Vesak Day / Saka Dawa
to commemorate Lord Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana June 15, 2011

In the Buddhist tradition, June 1st through the 15th is the most auspicious time of the year. June 15th commemorates Lord Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana (passing from this world). June 15th is the holiest of holy days for Tibetans and it is our belief that because Buddha Shakyamuni prayed for all sentient beings to achieve enlightenment, and he achieved enlightenment on this day, the merits of our virtuous and positive actions during this 15-day time period will be multiplied 100,000 times (most especially good deeds done on the full moon of June 15).

Gyuto monks would like to ask all our friends and members to participate in this very important occasion by doing some extra positive things in your life, such as helping others in whatever small ways you can: assisting the poor or elderly; volunteering at a local soup kitchen or school; offering your services to local charities or homeless shelters; spending time with the sick and homebound. These acts will benefit not only others but ourselves as well, many times over.

In honor of Buddha's birth, death and enlightenment, Gyuto Vajrayana Center is doing a 1,000 Water Bowl Offering for 15 days starting today. We welcome any and all members and friends to join us for these offerings. We will also be doing special prayers on Wednesday, June 15th, at 7:00pm and the Eight Mahayana Precepts on the morning of June 15th from 5:30am - 6:00am. Everyone is welcome to come and take the Eight Mahayana Precepts; there are no prerequisites to do so.

All the Gyuto monks are praying for all of our members and friends during this month of Vesak/Saka Dawa and we wish you all happiness and peace in this most sacred month.

If you would like to further support the Gyuto Center's spiritual and charitable efforts, we welcome your donations. Even the smallest amounts go a long way.
