Chenrezig Empowerment

Saturday, January 15, 2011
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Chenrezig
On Saturday, January 15, 2011, Venerable Gangling Khentul Rinpoche, Abbot of Spiti Monastery, will confer the 1,000 Arm Kriya Tantra Chenrezig empowerment at the Gyuto Vajrayana Center.

Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara)

Chenrezig is the bodhisattva that embodies the compassion of all the Buddhas. Amitabha Buddha, seeing that Chenrezig recognized that with only two arms he would never be able to help all sentient beings, blessed Chenrezig with 11 heads and 1,000 arms so that he could help everyone that suffers.

There are no prerequisites or commitment for this initiation but on the day you should avoid 'black' food such as alcohol, meat and garlic. As always, this event is free, but donations are greatly appreciated!

Venerable Gangling Khentul Rinpoche

Venerable Gangling Khentul Rinpoche

Rinpoche was born in Lhasa in 1926. At the age of 6 he was recognized as the reincarnation of Gaden Shartse Monastery’s Abbot, venerable Tenzin Phuntsok by His Holiness the 13th Dalai Lama and became Gangling Khentul Rinpoche. He studied at Gaden Shartse monastery where he received his Lharampa Geshe degree, after which he joined the Gyuto Tantric Monastery for further tantric studies. Rinpoche left Tibet in 1959 with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and resettled in India where he became the spiritual teacher for over 25 years at various Tibetan schools. After his retirement in 1987, His Holiness appointed him to be abbot of Spiti Monastery in Ladakh, where he has remained.
