Nyung-Ne Fasting Retreat:

All the participants must have had received a Chenrezig empowerment to take part in this fasting retreat.

A Nyung-Ne retreat consists of taking the Eight Mahayana precepts, based on Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion, and involves fasting and multiple daily sessions of prostration and recitation of his Sadhana. This is an intensive spiritual practice to purify obscurations and negativities and accumulate merits.

The schedule for Saturday and Sunday begins with the Mahayana precepts (24-hour vows) at 5.30 a.m. and final session ends about 6 p.m. On Saturday participants abstain from eating and drinking and maintain silence. Only one pre-noon meal is to be taken. Sunday is a day of silence; no food or liquids are to be taken. In this way, the body is purified by abiding in the retreat, the speech is purified through the recitation of mantra and prayers, and the mind is purified by compassionate motivation.

The schedule for Monday begins at 8 am with a breakfast and ends at 10 am with abbreviated session and dedication of merits.

Each night all the participants will leave the Center and return in the morning.

Guru Puja Ritual Practice (See the attached file):

In this special class we will receive instruction on different aspects of the precious Guru Puja. We will discuss some of the very useful prayers in Tibetan and learn some of the tune in the ritual we do in our daily practice. Execution of the hand mudras will also be explained. It is the Gyuto monks’ hope that with this instruction, members will be able to do the Guru Puja at home and to eventually even learn to lead this very important puja. If you have a bell, vajra or damaru, please bring them to the class. It is free and everyone is welcome.

35 Buddha's Confession Practice (See the attached file):

This practice is a very powerful method to purify all our negativities through confessing to the 35 Buddhas. It is widely practiced in Tibetan Buddhism for purification of the negativities of body, speech and mind. The 35 Buddha practice is extremely important for clearing away past negativities, the cause for present and future suffering and for removing obstacles in both spiritual and worldly life. In this session we will be reciting the 35 Buddha's names while doing the full length of prostration. It is free and everyone is welcome.

Thank you,
Ven. Donyo, Director
