Heart Sutra Teachings
by the
Venerable Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa
Teachings & Commentary on the Heart Sutra
Saturday, October 31st: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Sunday, November 1st: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
The Heart Sutra
From the book based on his teaching, "The Essence of the Heart Sutra" it says: "The Heart Sutra contains Buddhism's most direct, most succinct teaching about the nature of our being and of all reality. These subtle and easily misunderstood teachings lie at the very heart of all Buddhist wisdom, and a thorough understanding of them is essential for attaining what His Holiness calls "an unmistaken view of reality" - a view that brings about true liberation from the source of all suffering."
We are very fortunate that
Khensur Rinpoche, the ex-Abbot of Gyumed Monastery and one of Tibetan Buddhism's great scholars will give as a teaching a commentary on the Heart Sutra.
Venerable Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa
Venerable Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa was born in 1937 in Nyaktren, a sector of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. In 1947 at the age of 10, he entered Sera Mey Monastery, one of the three major seats of highest Tibetan Buddhist studies. In 1952, he received his novice monk vows from the late Minyag Tondues Rinpoche, the 95th throne holder and in 1959, he received the complete Bhikshu vows – the highest level of ordination – from the late Yongzin Ling Rinpoche, the 97th throne holder of Gelugpa tradition and also senior tutor to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Khensur Rinpoche studied in Tibet until 1959 when he fled to India.
In India Rinpoche continued his studies at
Sera Mey and received his
Geshe Lharampa degree in 1986. Rinpoche joined Gyumed Tantric College and received his Ngagrampa degree in 1990. He was appointed Discipline Master in 1993, Lama Umze in 1994 and abbot of Gyumed in 1996.
Khensur Rinpoche is both a scholar of great knowledge and understanding, and a holder of many traditional teaching lineages. He currently teaches at Guhyasamaja Center in Washington, D.C., and at his newly established center in Redding, Connecticut, DoNgak Kunphen Ling.
Lunch will be served for everyone. Everyone is welcome to attend these teachings. Gyuto's teachings are always free of charge but please kindly make a small donation to cover the cost of hosting the teachings.
