Vajrasattva Introductory Class by Ven. Geshe Lobsang Chonyi
Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 pm - 9 pm
Ven. Geshe Chonyi la will be giving guided meditation on Vajrasattva practice.
Venerable Geshe Lobsang Chonyi was born in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim in 1965. In 1971, he was given his novice vows and ordained by His Holiness’ junior tutor, Trijang Rinpoche. Geshe la entered at Sera Mey Monastery and completed his studies there and received his Lharampa Geshe degree. After he received his Geshe degree, he then went to Gyuto Tantric Monastery to study the tantras and spent for five years. Geshe-la has also studied Tibetan astrology, particularly the aspect that focuses on calculations and the calendar.
This is Geshe-la’s first visit to America so he is enjoying the new experience and using the additional time he has available to increase his studies. Geshe la is the resident teacher of Gyuto Vajrayana Center. Geshe-la is looking forward to meet the students and provide whatever teachings will be of benefit to them.
One Day Vajrasattva Practice
Sunday, August 31 at 9 am - 5 pm
Vajrasattva Practice is the main deity in Tibetan Buddhism for the practice of purification. All four schools of Tibetan Buddhism practice Vajrasattva in daily life. If one practices sincerely and with the correct motivation, all negativities we have accumulated in this life and previous lives can be removed. Vajrasattva is also representative of the 100 Peaceful and Wrathful Deities considered to be embodied in each sentient being (as energy points) and also represents the Union of Compassion and Skillful Means.
Prerequisite: All participants must have received Vajrasattva Empowerment or Initiation. We request $25.00 donation per person to cover the cost of hosting the retreat. Lunch will be served. If one interested, please kindly register by email: info@gyutocenter.org
Seven Point Mind Training by Venerable Geshe Gyaltsen
Mind Training is a practice in the Buddhist tradition based on a set of proverbs formulated in Tibet in the 12th century by Chekawa. Through the practice we undertake to connect with our world in an unconditionally positive way, and also to take full responsibility for our experience of it.
Venerable Geshe Gyaltsen la is the spiritual director and founder of Thubten Dhargye Ling in Long Beach and has also been on the Board of Directors of the Gyuto Center since the Center began 2001.
Geshe-la is known for his great compassion and personal warmth; yet he retains a very traditional and uncompromising approach to teaching the Dharma. His strength of vision and devotion to his practice transcend time and culture, and he continues to inspire his students with the legacy he has brought from Tibet. If one interested, please kindly register by email: info@gyutocenter.org
