This will be the Gyuto Center’s only White Tara retreat for 2004. The retreat is nearly full.
For those of you who wish to attend please register as soon as possible before space runs out.
Texts will be provided in Tibetan, English and Chinese but we will be doing the prayers
using Tibetan phonetics. If you cannot follow the Tibetan phonetics then you can recite
the mantras while others are doing the prayers.
What to bring?
You can bring your vajra, bell, and mala (prayer beads).
If you do not have any of these you can borrow or purchase them from the Center.
What is the diet?
It is strictly vegetarian. Also, you cannot eat any “black” food; which means: no
meat, no garlic, no alcohol and no onions.
What are the rules?
During the sessions, you are not allowed to talk other than reciting the Tara
mantra. You are not allowed to drink or eat during the sessions. Each session
begins with all those participating washing their hands and rinsing their mouths.
Tara
The practice of the deity Tara belongs to the first level of tantra known as Kriya
or Action Tantra. Here the practice involves the development of internal meditational
absorption with a special focus on external ritual practices such as performing mudras,
reciting mantras and the rituals of cleansing and purification. This practice is
especially effective for the purification of the delusions of the body, speech and
mind as well as removing our negativities and increasing our life span and prosperity.
Offerings
What to bring for offerings?
Suitable offerings include candles, cookies, and fruit or flowers for the altar.
