12 October 2003 Event at Gyuto Vajrayana Center

Dear Friends,

Here is the Gyuto Center schedule for October and November.

Six Armed Mahakala Puja
Saturday, October 18th,
10.00 am to 12.00 pm

Mahakala is the manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Mahakala's six arms signify the completion of the six perfections. The main role of Mahakala is to fulfill the four enlightened activities of pacifying interferences and gaining control over situations, and, if all else fails, destroying obstacles with wrathful force. If one practices Mahakala correctly its transformative effects can be outstandingly beneficial.

Since the Gyuto Center decided to purchase a new house many difficulties have had to be overcome. Rinpoche has suggested that we perform a Mahakala ritual ceremony to remove obstacles, and to benefit all beings, especially those members who have supported the Center since its beginning. We hope that the Center will enable the Dharma to flourish.
Every one is welcome.
Please bring fruits and flowers for offerings.

Guru Puja (Tsog) Offering
Monday, Oct. 20th
7.00 pm - 8.00 pm

Guru Puja (Tsog) offering is the ritual of making offerings to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in order to reaffirm our vows. This ritual is conducted twice a month based on the lunar calendar. There will be chanting in Tibetan and English. All the offerings will be distributed as blessings. Everyone is welcome.

White Tara Initiation
Sunday, October 26th
10.00 am - 12.00 pm

Ven. Dhakpa Rinpoche has agreed to give a White Tara Initiation before he leaves for India. This will be Rinpoche's last teaching for this year in San Jose. White Tara is specifically associated with practices designed to lengthen one's lifespan, increase prosperity and overcome life-threatening hindrances. Among Tibetans it is a practice common to all four Buddhist schools. Once we have received this Initiation then we are qualified to do a White Tara retreat in the future. There are no fees for the initiation or teachings but donations are greatly appreciated.
Everyone is welcome.

Rinpoche Departs for India
Tuesday, Oct. 28th, at 11.55 pm

Rinpoche and Lobsang will leave for India at midnight on China Air from San Francisco via Taipei to New Delhi, India. If anyone would like to say good bye to Rinpoche and Lobsang, please go to the SF airport or come to the Center around 7 pm.

November Programs:

Guru Puja (Tsog) Offerings
Monday, Nov 3rd & Wednesday, 19th,
7.00 pm - 8.00 pm

Everyone is welcome.

Yamantaka Retreat
Sunday Nov. 2nd, at 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm
Monday Nov. 3rd - Sat 22nd, 9.00 am - 6.00 pm

The Gyuto Center will be holding a three week Yamantaka retreat. Since Venerable Dhakpa Tulku Rinpoche performed the Yamantaka Initiation many of participants will now have an opportunity to do the retreat. You must have a Yamantaka Initiation to do the retreat, and Rinpoche has stated that it must not be open to the public. Rinpoche has said that Yamantaka is one of the highest tantric deities and so we must be committed to doing the practice correctly. Rinpoche has also said that in order to complete the retreat all the participants must take a full three week commitment. There will be four venerable monks leading the retreat including the fire puja ritual ceremony at the end of the retreat.

If one wishes to do the retreat, please register before Oct. 25th. Only up to 15 retreatrants will be accepted as it will be held in one of the private rooms at the center.

There are no fees for the retreat but a $300 per person donation is requested in order to cover the cost of the food and the Fire Puja ingredients. Lunch and breakfast will be served every day during the three week retreat. All the retreatrants will leave the Center after the session each day and return to the Center in the morning.

Fire Puja Ritual Ceremony
Saturday, Nov. 22nd
10.00 am 12.00 pm

The Fire Puja is open to the public. If anyone would like to sponsor the offering ingredients please talk to Donyo. There will be a total of 12 different ingredients and all of the ingredients have great meaning. For example, black sesame symbolizes negativities and purifies all the negativities of one self.

On Sunday when you come to the Center please do not block our neighbors' driveways. If it is possible please park little distance from the Center's house so that our neighbors will not complain about the crowd.

Thank you for your help.

Ven. Thupten Donyo
